The ROADMAP TO SUCCESS

Why

Early FOUNDATIONS + TEST PREP Matters:

Building Success from Upper Elementary

Admission to top NYC specialized high schools and elite private academies isn't won in 7th or 8th grade. It begins with the academic framework built in 3rd through 5th grade.

Exams like the SHSAT, Hunter College High School Exam, and ISEE don't just measure test-taking tricks—they assess deep, foundational mastery applied under pressure.

1. Upper Elementary Core Mastery

(Grades 3–5)

  • Math Reasoning: Moving beyond basic math to multi-step word problems, logic, and proportional thinking—skills required for the quantitative sections of the ISEE and SHSAT.

  • Critical Reading: Developing explicit text analysis, inference, and vocabulary in context to handle complex passages on the Hunter and ISEE exams.

  • Structured Writing: Mastering core sentence structure, paragraph organization, and argument design to tackle high-stakes, timed essay sections.

2. NYS State Exams as a Benchmark

  • Building Stamina & Focus: State tests serve as the first training ground for pacing and focus during multi-day standardized testing.

  • Establishing the Baseline: Grade-level proficiency on state exams provides the foundational launching pad needed to master advanced, above-grade-level admissions content

  •

3. Targeted Admissions Test Prep

  • SHSAT: Advanced math mastery, critical reading, and time-saving pacing strategies for NYC’s elite public high schools.

  • Hunter College High School Exam: Rigorous reading comprehension, advanced math reasoning, and high-level essay writing.

  • ISEE & Private School Exams: Adaptive test familiarity, verbal reasoning, essay coaching, and personalized application support.

Strategy + Knowledge = Confidence

When students build strong academic fundamentals early, test prep becomes about refining strategy, pacing, and confidence—not re-teaching core skills under tight deadlines.
