MATH
As students move through middle school (grades 6–8), the math they learn builds on the basics from elementary school and prepares them for the more complex problem-solving they’ll need in high school and beyond.
The Next Generation Learning Standards (NGLS) for Math in New York are designed to help your child become a confident, logical thinker who can apply math in real-world situations.

READING
In middle school, reading becomes more than simply understanding stories — it’s about analyzing, thinking critically, and using reading to learn about the world.
The New York State Next Generation Learning Standards (NGLS) for reading are designed to help students develop the skills they need to become thoughtful, independent readers who can handle complex texts and ideas in preparation for high school and beyond.

WRITING
In middle school, writing is about more than putting words on paper — it’s about learning to think clearly, organize ideas, and communicate effectively.
The Next Generation Learning Standards (NGLS) for writing help students develop the skills to express themselves in different ways, preparing them for high school, college, and real-world writing tasks.
